LONELY hearts, short films and inspirational documentaries will
light up the big screen this weekend when the West Hollywood film
festival returns to Yarraville for a third year.
The three-day festival of queer films will be at the Sun Theatre,
launching with a gala opening event at 7pm on Friday, featuring Goldfish Memory, a romantic comedy about lonely hearts.
Local filmmaker Lee Galea’s masterpiece Monster Pies, which was filmed in the western suburbs, returns after screening at
this year’s Melbourne Queer Film Festival, where it sold out at its
premiere screening and won the audience choice award.
The feature-packed weekend includes Oz Shorts, a free showcase of the best in Australian queer short film, as well as United in Anger: A History of ACT UP – an inspiring documentary about the birth and life of the AIDS activist movement.
Maribyrnong mayor Catherine Cumming said the council was proud to
be co-presenting the festival with the Melbourne Queer Film Festival.
“We want to offer a range of exciting festivals, arts and cultural
events to residents and visitors alike, and West Hollywood is a key
part of our festival city calendar,” she said.
