FFV: Altona East Phoenix shock puts zest into title race

ALTONA East Phoenix has produced one of the shocks of the Football
Federation Victoria men’s state league 2 season and spiced up what
could have been a dull title race.

The Phoenix, out of contention in eighth position on the ladder,
surprised top-of-the-ladder Moreland City 1-0 at Paisley Park on
Saturday.

Phoenix’s fifth win of the season was a big one.

City still holds a five-point lead at the top of the ladder but has something to think about in the last four rounds.

Altona City has tumbled to the foot of the ladder in state league 3 after a devastating 3-1 loss to Hume United.

City is one slip-up away from officially being relegated.

Yarraville Glory maintained its pursuit of a late promotion bid with a 5-2 trouncing of Moreland United.

Williamstown joined in the goal feast in state league 4, mauling Essendon Royals 5-1.

In state league 5, Laverton Park was victorious 5-0 over Melbourne Tornado.

Melbourne City shocked the title-chasing Brimbank Stallions 3-1.

Altona North slipped to a fourth successive defeat with a 3-1 loss at home to Point Cook.
