Rampant Vikings nail second lacrosse spot

ALTONA has claimed a top-two finish in the Lacrosse Victoria men’s division 1.

The Vikings delivered all-out attack in a 17-4 drubbing of Surrey Park at P.J. Lynch Reserve on Saturday.

Mathew Stewart had the hot stick with five goals.

The Mackinnon boys – Lachlan (four) and Campbell (two) – and Cameron Keenan (two) also scored multiples.

The Vikings clinched second with a game and percentage break on
third-placed Moreland, setting up an all-west semi-final showdown with
Williamstown on Saturday, with the winner to advance directly to the grand final.

Meanwhile, Williamstown was in a shot-happy mood in a 20-5 blitz
of Chadstone in the men’s state league at Treyvaud Memorial Reserve on
Saturday.

The victory has ensured the Fearons a double chance in the finals with a round to go in the regular season.

In women’s state league, Newport had a resounding 15-8 win over Eastside at Caulfield Park on Saturday.

Hayley Sofarnos (five goals) and Stacey Morlang (three goals and five assists) were constant thorns in the side of the hosts.
