Call for volunteer drivers

The Victorian AIDS Council is marking its 30th anniversary by reflecting on the thousands of sufferers it has helped.

Acting volunteer co-ordinator Ian Foote said the organisation
helped provide a range of services, including financial advice and
assistance to keep appointments and shopping.

More than 31,000 HIV infections had been diagnosed in Australia by
the end of 2011 and about 25,000 people were living with HIV/AIDS.

The introduction of antiretroviral drug treatments has improved survival time.

“People are living longer than they did 20 years ago, which is a
good thing, but our need for volunteers is still there,” Mr Foote said.

He urged people in the Footscray area interested in being volunteer
drivers to get in touch.
