An innovative video project is
helping students open up about their lives.
Relationship Dilemmas – Growing Up is designed to help students aged 11-14 talk about issues surrounding
rumours, jealousy and social media.
Secondary-school nurse Tania Last
says the students enjoyed identifying the themes that formed the basis
of the script.
“Resources aimed at younger kids mainly cover puberty and
information for older kids focuses on sexual health in relationships,
but this in-between period lacked ‘real-life’ stories we can use to
begin important discussions,” she says.
The DVD features a dramatised
relationship in stages and explores pressures to be sexually active and
sexualisation of youth in the media.
