Charlie Sutton honoured, by the Way

The memory of Bulldog great Charlie Sutton will be preserved
forever following the naming of a road in his honour near his beloved
Whitten Oval.

Footscray’s Sutton Way – intersecting Whitten Avenue at
the E.J. Whitten Statue – was named in tribute to the Bulldog Hall of
Fame Legend for his outstanding contribution and involvement at the
kennel.

Sutton Way was officially launched last Thursday by Bulldogs
chief executive Simon Garlick and Maribyrnong mayor Catherine Cumming
(pictured holding the street sign) with help from the family of the late
football star, who died in 2012.

Sutton, a beloved son of the Bulldogs,
led the club as captain-coach to its only premiership in 1954.
