Altona North boxing sensation Qamil Balla has claimed the vacant Australian light welterweight title.
Balla, 24, raised in Werribee, defeated New South Welshman Jack Brubaker in a unanimous decision over 10 gruelling rounds in the main event at the Melbourne Pavilion in Flemington tonight.
The judges scored the fight 96-94 98-92 and 97-93.
Balla has recorded six consecutive victories in the ring to take his overall tally to six wins (three by KO) and a draw.
In the post fight interview, Balla said that he expected the fight to go the distance.
“We always plan to go 10 rounds, we never plan just to knock out somebody,” he told the ring announcer.
“It was good, just boxing around, doing what we do.”
