Hately nails sprint finish opportunity

Target Trek rider Dylan Hately won the third-last race of the
Footscray Cycling Club’s winter road season at the Kirksbridge circuit
in Little River on Saturday.

Conditions were perfect, with virtually no wind and clear skies for the 80-kilometre race.

Four hot laps saw many riders trying to break away and failing in
their quest, so the race turned into a tailor-made sprint finish for the
in-form Hately.

“I was third wheel going into the sprint and was in a great spot,
so I waited until the right moment and took the win,” the 25-year-old
from Camperdown said.

Hately, who hails from a long and distinguished pedigree of
professional cyclists, is a regular competitor in the national road
series and has placed in the top 20 in the prestigious Melbourne to
Warrnambool Cycling Classic.

The unluckiest rider on the day was Jason Costin, who was in the
thick of the sprint but lost his chain and his chance to take out the
Salter Cycles winter series.

The series was won by James Love, with his fellow Bikebug teammate, Adam Trewin, in second place.

Triathlete Daniel Hopper took the spoils in B grade from Igor Tesic and Matt Pope.

Colin Morris in C grade and Barry Cram in D grade were the other winners.
