Window smashed in after woman drives past booze bus

Police smashed a woman’s car window to get her out after she drove through a booze bus operation in Millers Road, Altona, on Friday night.

A shopper nearby at Central Square in Altona Meadows said she was shocked to see police surround a car and break through a window about 8.30pm.

Kylie Strickland said police with dogs descended on the driver.

“The ‘chopper’ was above following the car to the car park,” she said. “Police cars came from different directions of the car park and surrounded the car. They smashed the window and pulled her out.”

Senior Sergeant Daniel Civitico, of Altona North police, said the 40-year-old woman had been stopped by police at a booze bus site about 7.30pm.

“The driver underwent a preliminary breath test and then decided to drive off.

“The driver was pursued by police in the surrounding streets before being intercepted and arrested at the Central Square shops.

“She is to be charged at a later date with a number of driving offences, including evading police.’’
