Oxfam supporters dressed as carrots, bananas and corn shared the ‘Eat Local Feed Global’ message at Little Saigon market in Footscray on Monday.
Oxfam is encouraging people to mark World Food Day on October 16 by hosting a meal to raise awareness of global hunger.
Campaign co-ordinator Olivia Hartigan said sharing a meal with friends, family, workmates or classmates could help highlight the role people could play in a future when everyone had enough to eat.
“From eating sustainably and wasting less food to raising money for Oxfam’s life-changing work and calling on the Australian government to do more to tackle hunger … small actions create lasting change.”
Supporters around the world are expected to help tackle global hunger by joining the Eat Local Feed Global challenge.
Ms Hartigan said politicians and corporations had a key role to play, but individuals also had the power to help make the food system fairer. “We can start doing this with some simple principles for feeding our families, friends and loved ones.”\ BM
