VFL: Footscray Bulldogs appoint Chris Maple as coach

Footscray Bulldogs have secured the coach who will lead them as a stand-alone entity in the Victorian Football League.

Chris Maple has been part of the Western Bulldogs’ coaching panel in the AFL since 2008 and head of the club’s development program for the past four years.

Maple’s development credentials are widely admired, and Bulldogs acting chief executive Shannon Rees expects a continuation of those qualities.

“Chris has played a significant role to date in developing the exceptional young talent that we have here at the Bulldogs,” she said.

“His capacity to support and develop our younger group to be the best they can be – both on and off the field – makes him the perfect person to lead our VFL team going forward.”

Maple is looking forward to a return to the sort of match-day coaching role he held as coach of the North Ballarat Rebels in the TAC Cup before crossing to the Whitten Oval.

“It will be a pleasant change getting back into a match-day coaching role,” he said. “I’m looking forward to the challenge.”
