VSDCA: Altona lose derby bragging rights to Werribee

Altona copped a 55-run defeat at the hands of Werribee in a hard-fought derby at Chirnside Park on Saturday.

The A’s had a huge 263 target to chase on a difficult afternoon for batting and the outlook became bleaker when they slumped to 4-69.

New skipper Shane Jones breathed life into the chase with 60 in the middle order, while Lee Elmore (33) and Aaron Maynard (26) got starts and couldn’t go on with them.

In a rain-affected week that made a number of grounds unplayable, Yarraville and Williamstown had to settle for draws against Endeavour Hills and Melton respectively.
