DOCUMENTARY: BAG IT

New award-winning environmental documentary Bag It comes to Yarraville’s Sun Theatre and screens from 7pm on November 7, part of a campaign to see Yarraville Village become plastic bag-free. The film identifies how our daily reliance on plastic threatens our waterways, marine life, and human health. Locals have been invited to get creative in their bag design contest and the winning artwork will be announced at the film screening, with cloth bags available afterwards. 8 Ballarat Street, Yarraville. THE HACKKETS’ SINGLE RELEASE

NEEDLEPOINT WEST

Jessie Deane threads together over half a million colourful stitches to create Needlepoint West, a portrait in tapestry of Melbourne’s inner West. Photography and thread are combined to create tapestry images featuring the familiar landmarks of Melbourne’s west: West Gate Bridge, Yarraville Terminal, Altona Refinery and stacks of colourful containers. The opening night is from 6pm-8pm Thursday November 7 at Rosylyn Smorgon Gallery, 45 Moreland Street, Footscray. The Artist Talk is from 2pm-3pm November 17 and the exhibition runs from November 8-December 1.

60 YEAR CELEBRATION
