Ash Naylor may have been only three years old at the time, but the energy of The Rolling Stones’ 1973 Kooyong Tennis Centre concert still found a way into his bones.
The singer and guitarist, best known as the frontman of Melbourne band Even, has been an avid listener of live Rolling Stones performances and this weekend he will attempt to recreate the buzz of the sweat-drenched 1973 show.
“It’s about channelling the energy and the spirit of the people who played,” he said.
“I have seen the Stones in 1995 and 2003. Both times were just phenomenal. The older the band gets the better they play; I was blown away.”
A track-for-track live tribute to the ‘Exile On Main Street’ world tour will be performed by all-star act The Monkey Men at The Yarraville Club on Saturday.
“All of us have been massive Stones fans. There is a bit of hero worship,” Naylor says.
“We played three shows earlier this year and it went beyond our expectations, the crowds were manic.”
Tickets $35/$30.
