All clothing will cost $1 at a one-day sale at the Lighthouse Laverton op shop on Saturday.
The Lighthouse, run by South West Community Services, provides food, clothing, furniture and school resources for people in need.
It sells used clothing, furniture, computers, electrical items and bric-a-brac.
Laverton manager Lesley Mantle, who has volunteered at the Woods Street store for 15 years, said people came from as far as Ballarat and Geelong to shop at the superstore.
The $1 sale at 58 Woods Street, Laverton, runs from 9am-4pm. Lighthouse and other op shops are fighting a battle against people dumping unwanted rubbish or goods that they are unable to sell.
Williamstown Hospital Opportunity Shop says it costs $200 each time staff have to call a rubbish removalist.
And there has been a rise in the number of unsellable goods left outside each night, even though the store clearly advertises it can’t sell electrical items.
Western Health’s Jo Spence said staff were stunned when a fridge was left outside recently, but Hobsons Bay council came to the rescue and took it away.
The store is seeking volunteers so it can start trading on Sundays to raise more funds for the local hospital.
