Yarraville Special Development School students have a bounce in their step thanks to a special new donation.
The “iJump” talking trampoline was presented to the school last week by year 10 students from Presentation College, Windsor.
The college students worked with Yarraville students with intellectual and physical disabilities and Victoria University to develop the interactive trampoline, which rewards jumping children with sounds, words of encouragement and music they have recorded.
VU School of Engineering lecturer John Chlond said the prototype was developed during a week of intensive engineering training and work experience through the Engineering Students @ Work program.
“This program is an excellent way to introduce young students to the world of engineering by focusing on the creative and human aspects of engineering rather than the hard maths and sciences,” he said.
