Cycling: Early attacks pay off for Dom Dudkiewicz

After a hiatus of several years, the Footscray Cycling Club has returned to Altona’s Drake Boulevard for summer criterium racing.

A-grade’s race was dominated by an early series of attacks which led to a successful two-man breakaway.

Dom Dudkiewicz and Miles DaCosta spent most of the race grinding out the turns and building a lead on the cagey riders of the main bunch.

Dudkiewicz spoke of how he “broke away on lap two for no real reason other than just being happy to be back at Drake Boulevard”.

The pair maintained their lead, resulting in Dudkiewicz taking the win and DaCosta rolling through for second moments later.

Adrian Hanson took a strung-out third.

The other grade winners were Anthony Molinia (B grade), Darren Payne (C) and Ruben Wilkes (D).v
