Yarraville Club boasts one of the most accomplished batting line-ups in the Victorian Turf Cricket Association senior division, but even it will struggle to chase down Beaumaris’s mammoth total of 8-377.
The Clubbers were chasing the red ball to all sections of Hansen Reserve on Saturday as visiting batsmen Ian Cockbain (148) and Hamza Riazuddin (95) combined for a 179-run partnership that included 35 boundaries.
A successful Clubbers run chase is not out of the question – they have a similar line-up to the one that made 383 at the same venue last month.
In north division, Spotswood faces a similarly difficult hurdle after Doutta Stars piled on 7-312 on the back of tons to Brenton Parchment (136) and Hamish Moore (122).
Andrew Dickinson snared 6-56 off 20 overs for the Woodsmen.
Williamstown CYMS gave up 6-310 to Westmeadows, with former CYs player-coach Danny Law dominating with 151 not out.
Elsewhere in the division, Altona North (101) ceded first-innings points to PEGS (7-116); Footscray United (83) is on the verge of doing the same against West Coburg (0-3); and Laverton’s (178) clash with Keilor Park (1-14) should go down to the wire.
In north A1, Leigh Lewis (3-15 and 38no) had a day out to put Altona Roosters (3-67) in a strong position against Werribee Centrals (128), but Seddon (122) faces an uphill task in its battle with Youlden Parkville (1-36).
In west B1, Senad Levic (65no) and Daniel Shanahan (5-26) starred as Kingsville Baptists (3-140) wrapped up first-innings points early over Sunshine YCW (123), while Newport-Digman (4-22) appears shaky against Sunshine United (80).
