Footscray Edgewater’s time at the top of the Premier Cricket ladder was short-lived.
A week after claiming top spot, the Bulldogs relinquished it with a 20-run loss to lowly Greenvale Kangaroos at Greenvale Reserve in a Saturday-Sunday encounter.
The Bulldogs couldn’t deliver the knockout punch with the ball on day one when at times it seemed they had gained the upper hand.
One wicket was regularly followed by a second, but the Roos would invariably hit back with a meaningful partnership to post a competitive 280 off 93.4 overs.
Jake Haberfield and Lucas Dredge snared three wickets apiece for the Dogs.
On day two, the Bulldogs innings was also a frustratingly stop-start affair before they were bowled out for 260 in the 82nd over.
The innings was littered with starts but no batsman could produce any more than Dylan Kight’s 44. The Dogs lost their last three wickets for 11 to be beaten for the first time since round three.
The Bulldogs head to Port Fairy for a double-header of Twenty20 Bush Bash matches on Saturday.
They will face Essendon at 11am and Prahran soon after at 3pm.
