Catch the best emerging bands from Melbourne’s west as finalists of The Very West perform for a panel of industry professionals and fans. The act deemed ‘most ready to take the next step’ will win a dedicated performance slot at St Jerome’s Laneway Festival in February and a year-long mentorship with Footscray Community Arts Centre. CHILDCARE AND WORKSHOPS

Maribyrnong Community Centre has occasional childcare for children aged between eight weeks and six years; 9.30am-2.30pm, Monday–Friday. It also offers workshops including one on picture framing, from 10am-4pm on Saturday, and a silver ring-making session from 10am-5pm on Sunday. 9 Randall Street, Maribyrnong.

TYPHOON RELIEF

Local children’s entertainers The Mudcakes present a family-friendly concert at 3pm on Sunday at The Substation, 1 Market Street, Newport. It’s a fund-raiser for children affected by typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. All proceeds from ticket sales will go to Unicef.
