Yarraville actor Kasia Kaczmarek is relishing her role in Red Stitch’s latest production, NSFW [Not Safe For Work].
The play is a savvy look at the world of modern media, from gender politics to the state of today’s print media.
Kaczmarek says she took on the role as she “absolutely loves” the playwright, Lucy Kirkwood.
She was drawn by the story of a feminist working in a misogynistic environment and the struggle to decide her limits.
“I love the script. There’s another play of hers I have been looking at producing following this project.”
The production explores the objectification of women in society, particularly via men’s magazines.
“They are interesting and deep issues, but they are accessible. [Kirkwood’s] language has an honesty and a poetry; you never feel alienated.”
NSFW is at Red Stitch Actors Theatre, 2 Chapel Street, St Kilda, until December 21.
