Footscray’s Hao Phong restaurant has been shut down after a salmonella scare.
As revealed by Fairfax Radio, Hao Phong restaurant in Hopkins Street, Footscray, was closed by health authorities on Tuesday after two diners were taken to hospital for salmonella poisoning, Victorian health department spokesman Graeme Walker said.
By Wednesday afternoon, Mr Walker confirmed three cases of salmonella had been traced to the restaurant while another 18 are suspected to have originated from the same source.
“Salmonella typically takes up to three days before it manifests itself,” Mr Walker said.
The health department does not expect further cases to be reported because the contamination period was December 27 to 31 and Mr Walker says most of the suspected cases have recovered.
Food cooked at the restaurant has been taken away for testing and the premises have been closed for a thorough clean-up.
Hao Phong is expected to reopen next week.
