Amazing triple lightning strike over Williamstown

Altona-based photographer Keith Persall captured a triple lightning strike over Hatt Reserve in Williamstown during last week’s heatwave.

His “Triple Strike” image was taken over a 30-second-exposure on Thursday and is part of a mission to shoot something every day to post online.

“The 365 Project is a personal project to consecutively photograph, edit and post online one image a day for a whole year,” he said. “It challenges your creativity and photographic skills by forcing you to constantly be on the lookout for something new and interesting to portray in an image.”

The stormchaser shared his top tips on taking photographs of lightning.

“Watch the progress of the storm as it travels across the sky; it should give you an idea on where the next strike will be.

“Use a tripod or sit your camera on something solid so the camera doesn’t move.

“Slow the shutter speed of your camera as much as possible, click the shutter and hope the lightning strikes while the camera is taking the photo.”
