A draft masterplan to “reactivate” a Maidstone site that has been dormant for 15 years is expected to be presented to Maribyrnong council next Tuesday.
Plans for the Maidstone tennis facility and park include refurbishment of two tennis courts and the transformation of a historic tennis pavilion into a community meeting space.
Mayor Grant Miles said it would allow the community to enjoy a site that had been out of play since 1999.
“The Maidstone tennis facility site has been closed for 15 years and the draft masterplan proposes it be reactivated soon for the whole community to enjoy,” he said.
“The draft proposes a host of benefits for recreation, leisure and other community
uses.
“The new community space proposed by the draft masterplan will complement council’s other developments in the area, including the Maidstone Early Years Hub, which will also offer community meeting spaces.”
Demolition of the derelict Maidstone hall, undertaken this week, will allow space for more parkland and trees for the new masterplan.
A pergola and picnic tables will be installed in a new, extended park, which will have “productive and ornamental” trees and shrubs. The council says asbestos has been safely removed.
