Basketball

Altona Gators will tip off the 2014
Big V men’s division 1 season in just over a month. The Gators will hit the road to face the Camberwell Dragons at Balwyn High School on March 16. Their home opener will be seven days later when the Mildura Heat hit the Altona Basketball Stadium. The full fixture is available at bigv.com.au

Cricket

Yarraville Club has kept a tight leash on Bentleigh in the Victorian Turf Cricket Association senior division, restricting the visitors to 2-128 off 42 overs. There is a lot still to be played out after the heat policy was enacted on day one, but the Clubbers will all but seal a finals berth if they win.

Football

Lukas Markovic and Nick Lower will share captaincy duties for the Footscray VFL side this season. The co-captains have played for the Bulldogs at AFL level in recent seasons. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs held their annual family day at the Whitten Oval on Sunday with thousands of fans turning out to wish the side luck ahead of the NAB Challenge.

Soccer

Laverton Park will visit Point Cook to open the Dockerty Cup tournament on
March 1. Altona North has drawn a home fixture against East Bentleigh. Melbourne City is also at home to Montrose.
