Williamstown Wolves have the upper hand over Springvale Lions in the best-of-three Baseball Victoria summer league division 2 grand final series.
The Wolves took game one 9-8 in a thriller at the Melbourne Ball Park in Altona on Wednesday night.
Six early runs had the Wolves in dreamland with a 6-1 advantage after two innings.
They needed every bit of that advantage as the Lions chipped away over the next six innings to eventually take the lead by the middle of the eighth.
Ryan Camov, who coughed up the runs on the mound that gave up the Wolves lead, turned from villain to hero as he returned fire with the game winning two-run RBI ground ball to left field.
Jason Lester was the pick of the Wolves pitchers, leaving the game after four innings with a four run lead intact.
Josh Lee and Camov were called in from the bullpen to finish the game.
It has set the scene for a magnificent series.
Game two will be back at the Melbourne Ball Park on Saturday at 1pm, with game three, if required, on Sunday.
