At 96, Williamstown’s Ella Bambery plays a solid game of bridge nearly every week at the Altona Sports Club.
She’s a member of the Williamstown/Altona Bridge Club, which is conducting beginners’ classes from next month.
Club director Tim Orr says the group has up to 50 people regularly playing on Wednesday evenings and Friday afternoons.
“The club attracts players from as far afield as Werribee to the south and Moonee Ponds to the north because of its friendly, social atmosphere,” Mr Orr said.
“The age of players ranges from 19 to 90-plus. Bridge is a great ‘sport of the mind’ with opportunities to meet new people and form lasting friendships.”
Members meet on Wednesdays from 7.30-10.30pm and Fridays from 1.30-4.30pm. Visitors are welcome.
