Altona City Soccer Club will honour founder and long-time supporter Lou Noordenne with a pre-season tournament on Saturday.
Six clubs in two groups will battle it out for the Lou Noordenne Lightning Cup at Kim Reserve.
Group 1 will be contested by Altona City, Truganina Hornets and Darebin United, while group 2 includes Keilor Park, Spring Hills and Brunswick Zebras.
There will be eight games in all, including the group winners in the final under lights.
Noordenne died in September last year and City wanted to recognise his commitment to the club that spanned nearly five decades.
“After his passing, we invited the family back and got them involved again,” City coach Sam Borg said.
“This year is our 50th year at the club and the Noordenne family has been right behind us all the way.”
Meanwhile, Altona City was bundled out of the Dockerty Cup in the third round on Friday night with a 5-1 loss to Moreland City. Altona, a division below the visitors in the FFV, was outclassed after half-time.
“In my book, they’re a really good team and I was impressed to go in 2-1 down at half-time with more possession and probably dominating the first half,” Borg said.
“I thought the boys did really well.”
Huon Russell scored Altona’s only goal from the penalty spot.
“He’s probably the best penalty taker I’ve seen,” Borg said. “I’ve never seen him miss.”
