Katherine’s skills set to be a game-changer

One of Maribyrnong’s bright young leaders is using skills gained in the Western Bulldogs’ Whitten Project to create better lives for young people.

Katherine Salkovic, a member of the Maribyrnong Young People’s Consultative Committee, wants to create long-term positive changes.

“We are looking at a four- or five-year plan to make the youth of Maribyrnong feel safer and happier in our community,” she said.

Ms Salkovic credits the Whitten Project with transforming her in the past 12 months. Representing Maribyrnong council, the 15-year-old said the experience had taught her resilience and had empowered her.

Ms Salkovic has applied to do a World Challenge Cambodia trip, in which students budget and organise their own adventures. If successful she will help out at a community shelter.

Second-round Whitten Project nominations are now being accepted.
