An improved performance by the Altona Gators wasn’t enough for a win against Geelong Supercats in Big V men’s division 1 on Sunday.
After three weeks off, the Gators matched it with the Supercats for the first half before falling away in the second to lose 94-81.
The Gators’ shooting, which was poor in recent games, kept them in it for the first half as they gained points from more than 45 per cent of their efforts from the field.
The Gators trailed by only a point at half-time despite having 10 fewer field goal attempts.
In the third term, the Supercats started to take control and extended the margin to seven points as the Gators struggled to maintain a high shooting percentage.
The final term saw the Gators take more shots, but they were unable to make inroads into the margin.
James Guljas topscored for the Gators with 16 points; he also had 11 rebounds. Johnson Chung chipped in with 15 points.
This weekend, the Gators travel to Mildura to face the Heat on Saturday night.
