Holden keeps Aussie elements
Holden has announced it will retain its iconic Lang Lang proving ground in Gippsland after it ceases local production in 2017 to ensure its overseas-built cars are suitable for Australian conditions. Holden will also continue to design and develop vehicles in Australia to retain “uniquely Australian DNA”.
Euro models coming our way
In a sign of things to come, Holden also announced it is already adding to its overseas-built line-up, with three European-sourced vehicles to be introduced in the first half of next year. The sleek Cascada convertible (pictured) will come to Australia for the first time, joined by the Astra GTC and VXR three-door hatches, and the sophisticated Insignia VXR performance sedan.
Compact Hyundai SUV unveiled
Hyundai has revealed its ix25 compact SUV that is strategically developed for its growing Chinese market. The ix25 will mainly target younger drivers seeking style and practicality. It’s expected to
do battle in one of Australia’s fastest- growing automotive segments, where its bigger brother, the ix35, has proven popular.
Jazz platform for ‘sporty’ Honda
Honda Australia is also extending its SUV range next year with the all-new HR-V. The first-generation HR-V was sold here from 1999 to 2001. Featuring a super-clean 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine, it was known as a low-emission vehicle because it achieved 80 per cent fewer emissions than Australian regulations allowed at the time. The HR-V is built on the new Jazz platform and will offer sporty, versatile characteristics. It will provide customers with a wider choice in the SUV market, complementing Honda’s medium SUV offering, the popular CR-V.
Renault goes GT
Renault Australia recently launched the new Clio GT. Starting at $25,290 for the standard model and $28,790 for the premium, the Clio GT bridges the gap between the successful Clio passenger car range and the range-topping Clio RS. To emphasise its sport exterior, the Clio GT features a front bumper design incorporating wide-set LED lights, unique rear bumper design, chrome twin exhaust tailpipes, body-coloured side protective mouldings with satin grey inserts, satin grey door mirror housings, privacy rear windows and distinctive 17-inch anthracite alloy wheels.
Kia takes the safe approach
Kia Motors Australia has joined with Driver Safety Australia to provide a national safe driver training initiative. Driver Safety Australia provides a range of high-level, safe-driving programs for schools, newly licensed drivers and occupational health and safety programs for many of Australia’s leading corporations and fleet companies. The programs range from hands-on instructional drive days in Kia’s Rios, Ceratos and Sorentos through to innovative classroom presentations and on-line courses available to schools and workplaces.
