Yarraville: Green scheme delivers dream boost

A $10,000 windfall is helping Yarraville’s Green Collect to keep kids in school.

The not-for-profit organisation has received a Westpac Foundation community grant for its commitment to young people in Melbourne’s western suburbs.

Green Collect salvages computer and other waste generated by offices around Melbourne, “upcycling” the materials into home and giftware.

Green Collect executive director Sally Quinn said the Staying In School In Melbourne’s West program would help young people, while still at school, gain new skills and confidence through training and work experience with Green Collect.

“The Westpac community grant will allow us to establish the program and the work processes behind its implementation in a way that will generate meaningful workplace opportunities and greater community connectedness for young people,” Ms Quinn said.
