Man tries to drag woman into car in Footscray

Police are hunting for a man who tried to abduct a woman in Footscray last month.

The woman was walking along French street about 1.30pm on May 7 when a man approached her in his car.

The man allegedly asked the woman for directions, pretended he couldn’t hear, luring her closer to the passenger window before grabbing her.

The woman broke away and last saw the man driving into Paisley Street.

The man is described as African in appearance, aged in his late 30s to 40s, tall, with a thin build and thinning hairline.

He spoke with a thick accent and was wearing jeans and a blue and white flannel shirt over a t-shirt.

He was driving an old, dented, red hatchback with a light brown interior.

Police have released an image of a man they believe may be able to assist them in their enquiries.
