A doctor police say has links to the Western Bulldogs and VFL club Williamstown issued up to 500 tablets of prescribed medicine a day to associates of the Hells Angels, a magistrate has been told.
Richard Vucinic, 37, appeared in Melbourne Magistrates Court on Friday afternoon charged with trafficking Valium, diazepam, Sustanon and Xanax between December 27 last year and February 9 this year.
Detective Senior Constable Raj Tillekeratne said prescriptions and scripts Dr Vucinic issued were found in possession of James Turner and Alyce Bertola, who were associates of the Red Devils motorcycle club, an affiliate of the Hells Angels.
Police intercepted a telephone conversation in which Mr Turner told Mohammed Khodr, the president of the Darkside chapter of the Hells Angels, he had a doctor “on board” who could “get any prescription drugs he requires”, the detective said.
Mr Turner, Mr Khodr and Ms Bertola all appeared before court this week on drugs charges.
Detective Senior Constable Tillekeratne said police believed Dr Vucinic was affiliated with the Williamstown VFL club and the Western Bulldogs club in the AFL.
He said police investigations found Dr Vucinic had issued 120 medical scripts to Mr Turner and Ms Bertola and that on some days he had prescribed up to 500 tablets through 20 separate scripts.
Dr Vucinic, of Nunawading, is charged with four counts of trafficking a drug of dependence.
The court heard the Medical Board of Victoria was investigating his conduct.
Police believe text messages deleted from Dr Vucinic’s mobile phone related to the trafficking of drugs, the court was told.
The court heard the doctor told police he was friends with Mr Turner and Ms Bertola. He was also a regular gambler at Crown Casino and had $45,000 in unpaid fines, the court was told.
Dr Vucinic was granted bail by magistrate Simon Garnett on strict conditions, that he not contact prosecution witnesses, inform the Medical Board of Victoria of his case and notify colleagues he worked with at medical centres of his bail conditions.
He was also told not to prescribe medicine unless he did so under the supervision of another doctor.
Dr Vucinic is scheduled to return to court on July 4.
