A two-storey, 90-bed, aged-care centre could be built in Williamstown North, with Hobsons Bay council officers recommending the rezoning of industrial land at 222-258 Kororoit Creek Road.
A report that went before a council meeting on Tuesday, June 10, states rezoning the land from industrial 3 to residential growth would open it up for aged-care and residential development up to four storeys high.
But the land’s rezoning could “elevate the potential for the Hobsons Bay Caravan Park to be closed”, according to the report.
“It is anticipated that the amendment process and potential rezoning will take approximately 12 to 18 months to resolve,” the report states.
“The council is working with the owner of the land to ensure that adequate arrangements are in place to assist people who live on the land to find alternative accommodation in the event that the caravan park closes.
“There are also lease and tenancy laws that must be followed by the owner if the caravan park is to close some time in the future.”
But, according to the report, “it is understood that there is no proposal at this time to close the Hobsons Bay Caravan Park”.
The report says the main environmental concern is soil contamination, but the site can be remediated.
