North Melbourne footballer Majak Daw is being investigated over an alleged sexual assault.
It has been confirmed a 23-year-old Wyndham Vale man was arrested and interviewed by the Victoria Sexual Crimes Squad on May 25 this year.
A police spokeswoman said the arrest related to a historical sexual assault which took place in Altona in 2007 [when Daw would have been aged about 16].
The investigation is ongoing. Police declined to make any further comment.
Daw, the first Sudanese-born player to play AFL, joined the Kangaroos as a rookie in 2010, but has struggled to retain a regular spot in the team despite showing flashes of raw talent.
North Melbourne would not make comment on the allegations, saying only that “no charges have been laid and the club has no indication any charges will be laid”.
“We request the privacy of all parties be respected,” a club spokesman said.
Daw reportedly denied the allegations against him when approached by club executives back in May, expressing shock that police wanted to speak to him.
