Wild weather conditions whipped up a storm along the coast of Williamstown on Tuesday.
However, it escaped the brunt of fierce flooding experienced in Altona and Seaholme.
Altona SES responded to seven calls for help from Williamstown.
Williamstown resident Geoff Dougall, who took photos at 3pm, said huge waves were at a right angle to the rock retaining wall, and crashing onto the road at the back of Williamstown football ground.
“It is extremely unusual for such a high tide, backed up by the wind, to come so close to breaking over the seawall … with the rock wall being approximately two metres higher than the normal high tide.
“The height of the tide can be seen by the photos taken at the Gem Pier where the entire ferry landing is under a couple of metres of water, and the sea is within a few inches of flowing out into Commonwealth Reserve.”
