Altona North police seek public help to nab man over assault

Altona North police are appealing for public help to find a man who assaulted a 55-year-old man on a bus.

Sergeant Darren Gilmartin said about 7.45am on February 14, a man boarded a bus in Millers Road, Brooklyn.

“The bus then travelled to Irving Street, Footscray, and was stationary when the suspect became involved in an argument with a 55-year-old victim who was also a passenger on the bus,” he said.

“The argument has then become physical and the suspect has punched and kicked victim several times.

“A number of passengers intervened to prevent the victim being further assaulted.

“The suspect then picked up victim’s mobile phone and has thrown it onto the footpath, breaking it into pieces, as he exited the bus.”

The suspect is described as being of Southern European appearance, aged about 30, 180 centimetres tall, and is believed to live in the Altona North or Brooklyn area.

Anyone with information is urged to call Constable Bruce Grant or Sergeant Gilmartin on 9392 3111.
