Court for drink-driver

An allegedly drink-affected driver crashed into a bus stop on Maidstone Street, Altona, in front of Mount
St Joseph Girls’ College on Wednesday about 10.30pm. Part of the bus stop caved in from the impact. Police say the 30-year-old driver had a blood- alcohol reading of 0.09. He will face court on drink-driving and careless driving charges. No one was injured.

Start-up group grants

Hobsons Bay’s Community Fund committee is calling for new groups to apply for grants of $100 to $5000. Chairwoman Helen McVay said the fund was trying to attract start-up groups which may not have received council funding. Applications close July 14. www.hbcommunityfund.org.au

Info sought on bus assault

Altona North police have renewed their call for public help to find a man who assaulted a 55-year-old man on a bus in February. A man boarded a bus in Millers Road, Brooklyn, at 7.45am on February 14 and got into an argument with the victim who was also a passenger. Police said the victim was kicked several times. Other passengers intervened. The suspect picked up the victim’s mobile phone and threw it onto the footpath as he exited the bus. He’s decribed as being of southern European appearance, aged about 30 and 180 cm tall, and is believed to live in the Altona North or Brooklyn area.
