In the mid-1960s, a young Joe Creighton stood in a small dance hall in Belfast, Northern Ireland, witnessing a piece of music history.
On stage was a man who would go on to become one of popular music’s most revered figures – Van Morrison.
Writer and singer of such masterpieces as Brown Eyed Girl, Gloria and Moondance, Van Morrison was a regular performer at Belfast’s Maritime Club with his first band, Them.
Now Creighton is bringing his tribute to Van Morrison to the Yarraville Club on August 9 as part of his Into The Mystic tour.
Since settling in Australia in the 1970s, Creighton, a singer-songwriter, bassist and composer, has worked with the likes of Joe Camilleri’s Black Sorrows, Tim Finn, Ray Charles and Boz Scaggs.
But Van Morrison’s music will forever hold a special place in his heart.
“I’m trying to represent what Van Morrison was really about and his impact on society,” Creighton said.
Into the Mystic, with Joe Creighton and the Belfast Horns, will play at the Yarraville Club on Saturday, August 9, from 8.30pm.
Tickets cost from $23. Bookings: 9689 6033 or www.yarravillelive.com
