Commonwealth Games: Altona wrestler Ali Abdo beaten by gold medalist

Altona wrestler Ali Abdo has missed out on a medal in the 86-kilogram division at the Commonwealth Games.

Abdo lost to the eventual gold medalist Tamerlan Tagziev  in the round of 16

Fellow wrestlers Stevie Kelly and Mehrdad Tarash also missed the medal finals in their events.

Kelly lost to Wales’ Sarah Connolly in the 63-kilogram division.

Sydenham’s Tarash also lost in the quarter finals in the 65-kilogram division.

Bundoora’s Jian Fang Lay is through to the semi-finals in the women’s table tennis singles event at the Commonwealth Games.

Lay, who has already won bronze in the women’s teams event, will face Singapore’s Yu Mengyu for a spot in the medal matches.
