Altona will meet Hadfield in this weekend’s final of Tennis Victoria men’s grade 6, section 1 pennant.
The A’s advanced to the decider with an 11 sets to four victory over Geelong in the semi-final at Fresno Street on Saturday. Five of the six rubbers went the A’s’ way.
Robert Carpio combined with Ben Sampson to claim the first doubles match for the A’s, coming from a set down to beat Pete McDonald and Grant Porter 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.
Danut Cuc and Jason Hodza made it two from two for the A’s with a topsy- turvy 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 win over Toby Mitchell and James Coulson in the second rubber.
Cuc gave the A’s a three-rubber advantage with a hard-fought 6-4, 7-5 win over Mitchell in the first singles clash before Carpio put the tie beyond doubt when he beat McDonald in straight sets, 7-6, 6-4. The A’s’ only blemish for the day came in a junk time fifth rubber when Johnathon Patatsos lost 6-7, 6-2, 6-2 to Porter.
In grade 5, section 3, Rosamond was dumped from the title race with a seven sets to four defeat to Macleod.
