Postcards capture a moment in time. From First World War picture postcards to the handwritten notes to loved ones about idyllic family holidays, each one tells a story.
As part of its 40th anniversary celebrations, Footscray Community Arts Centre is asking people to put together audio and visual postcards documenting their contribution to the centre’s history.
Since its opening, more than two million people have passed through the doors of the centre, which is one of Australia’s oldest community arts and cultural development organisations. Through its Postcards From Forever project, the centre is encouraging residents to write messages, create artworks or share their experiences with the centre, while also inviting the public to assist with digitising its archives.
The project’s creative producer, Bernadette Fitzgerald, said it was about celebrating and showcasing the centre’s rich history.
“So far, we’ve received postcards from people as far away as Los Angeles, New York and Amsterdam.”
The messages, stories and artworks will be on display at a celebration at the centre on November 8.
