TAC Cup
Western Jets have missed out on a top-four spot in the TAC Cup after going down to Gippsland Power by two points on Sunday. The Jets conceded seven goals in the last term as a three-goal lead turned into a 16.7 (103) to 15.11 (101) defeat. Brenton Payne, Cameron Holdsworth, Mitchell Palma and Liam Duggan booted two goals apiece. The Jets will play Dandenong Stingrays in an elimination final on Sunday.
Gridiron
Western Crusaders have fallen one game short of Gridiron Victoria’s Vic Bowl XXX. The Crusaders were outclassed 62-12 by Geelong Buccaneers in the Conference B decider. The Bucs were undefeated in the regular season and have qualified for a fifth-straight bowl appearance.
Lacrosse
Footscray has cruised to an 18-10 win against MCC to strengthen its bid for the double chance in Lacrosse Victoria’s men’s state league. Chris Plumb fired in six goals in the rout and international James Lawrenson threw in five goals to go with four assists. Williamstown remains unbeaten after a 14-4 win against Eltham.
Cross-country
Western Athletics rising star Jack Rayner has claimed a gold medal at the Australian cross-country championships in Western Australia. Rayner ran a time of 25 minutes 20 seconds to win the men’s under-20 8 kilometre race.
