Dog agility

Get some exercise and have fun with your dog. The Agility Dog Club of Victoria trains on Friday nights under lights at WLJ Crofts Reserve, Blackshaws Road, Altona North. All breeds of dog and age groups are welcome. New members’ classes will begin in the new year. Numbers are limited.

World music

The songs of Cuba, India, Malaysia, Vietnam and Bolivia will be on the playlist when No Passport Required, an 11-piece cross-cultural band, plays at Footscray Community Arts Centre, 45 Moreland Street, Footscray, on Saturday from 7.30pm. Tickets cost $15 for adults and $10 concession.

Climate talk

Meteorologist and Christian environmentalist Dr Mick Pope will discuss climate change as part of a Hope for Creation event at St Mark’s Anglican Church on Sunday, September 7. The service starts at 10am at the corner of Melbourne and Hudson roads, Spotswood.

Exhibition

An exhibition by Sue Muldowney, titled The Adventures of Jas and Pykel Munny, runs from August 23 to September 2 at Altona’s Louis Joel Gallery. Featuring ceramics, porcelain art and oil paintings, it tells the story of two young fellows reunited with the family they thought they had lost.

Talking Italian

An author talk with Hilda and Laurie Inglese, celebrating Italian culture, will be held at Altona library on September 2 from 1.30-3pm. Wow It’s Italian is a celebration of the authors’ family, which migrated to the Yarra Valley from the Abruzzo region east of Rome. There will also be a demonstration of traditional and modern pasta-making methods.

Do you play the bass clarinet or bari sax? Hobsons Bay City Band is keen to welcome more musicians. Rehearsals are held from 7.30pm on Mondays at Newport Lakes Primary School, Elizabeth Street, Newport. Visitors and interested musicians of any age are welcome.
