Lalor boy charged after high-speed police pursuit

A Lalor teenager has been arrested following an alleged high-speed police pursuit from Altona North to Lara.

Police say that the 17-year-old boy, a 13-year-old Werribee girl, a 15-year-old Truganina girl, a 15-year-old Craigieburn girl and a 13-year-old Reservoir boy were in an allegedly stolen red Nissan Pulsar which was spotted driving along Blackshaws Road, Altona North, about 9.25pm on August 28.

Police attempted to intercept the car but the driver allegedly failed to stop and a pursuit began.

Officers chased the car through the western suburbs to Lara.

The pursuit came to an end when the car’s occupants attempted to flee on foot.

They were eventually arrested with the help of a police helicopter.

The Lalor boy has been charged with driving offences including reckless conduct endangering life and driving while suspended. He is also facing charges over the theft of a motor vehicle and the handling of stolen goods.

He has been remanded to face a children’s court at a later date.

The car’s passengers were spoken to by police and released pending further inquiries.
