Parking push about money

[Re: Trader anger over paid parking intensifies, Star Weekly, August 27]: Also note that Maribyrnong council recently changed the amount of free residential parking permits it allows and is now charging for a second permit.

Add this idea to the proposed parking meters and I can’t see how it’s going to help create more parking spots out of thin air. But it definitely improves the council’s finances.

Worse still, those who live in two-building residential dwellings are only allowed one parking permit each. Those moving in to multi-dwelling setups are now disallowed from even applying for a single permit.

Penguin deaths: Sick of ‘spin’

I fail to see how the commercial fisherman could be devastated when a member of the public phoned it in [Altona beach penguins’ death: Fishing net the culprit, Star Weekly online, September 1].

If the fisherman was so devastated, why didn’t he report the ‘accident’, as he called it? What are the authorities doing? I suppose we will be fed more spin.
