Newport bay in full bloom

Conservation group Friends of Greenwich Bay will hold a flora ID walk and talk along the Newport coast on Sunday, September 14.

The grassroots group revegetates and helps care for coastal bushland near the boat
ramp at the northern end of the Strand at Newport.

As part of celebrations for the 25th anniversary of Landcare, Australia’s largest volunteer movement, the walk will be led by Hobsons Bay ranger Suzette Rodoreda.

“Spring is a wonderful time to explore the native vegetation of this area,” she said.

“There are spectacular flowers and vibrantly coloured vegetation.

“We will have something to interest all the family – flora identification for the adults and a treasure hunt for the children.”

The event will run from 10am-noon.

People interested should meet at the gatehouse of the old SEC power station near the athletics track at the far end of the Strand.
