Footscray Plaza’s Coles supermarket will reopen next week after more than a year of redevelopment.
The new-look supermarket will open its doors next Wednesday in the refurbished Footscray Plaza building, bringing 110 jobs back to the centre of Footscray.
Seventy of the workers will be new, with 40 coming from the former Footscray supermarket and other Coles stores.
The store, first opened in 1987, closed last July for the 3300-square-metre redevelopment.
Store manager Charlie Abboud hopes shoppers will give the new store and its market-style layout a chance despite the lengthy closure.
“It’s been just over a year since we closed our doors and the team can’t wait to show locals how incredible this new store looks,” he said.
Coles’ Victorian general manager Leah Weckert said the reopening came as Coles celebrated its 100th birthday as an Australian-owned company.
The Footscray Plaza redevelopment includes five storeys of new apartments above the existing building.
The plaza’s official reopening event will be held from 11am to 2pm on Saturday, October 4.
