Spring into summer

Registrations are being taken for Maribyrnong council’s Spring into Summer, a series of 12, free six-week programs. Activities include yoga, tai chi, pilates, cycling and self defence. Bookings are essential.

Golden Holdens

Classic FX and FJ Holden models will be on show at a monster garage sale in Williamstown this Sunday. The Secondhand Heaven Sunday market, organised by the Rotary Club of Point Gellibrand, is from 9am-2pm at Seaworks, 82 Nelson Place, Williamstown. Turn pre-loved goods into cash by booking a stall. Entry costs $2, with funds going to the Royal Flying Doctor Service and Rotary charities.

Sound of the Seychelles

Grace Barbé will perform The Afro Sound of the Seychelles at The Substation in Newport from 7.30pm this Sunday. Blending traditional rhythms with a modern pop sensibility, Grace’s music demonstrates a natural fusion of cultures. Tickets cost $28 to $35. A free workshop will be held from 1-2pm on Sunday in the Footscray Community Arts Centre’s Basement Space. Bookings essential.

West welcome wagon

The Plough Hotel and Consider The Sauce will hold a fundraiser for West Welcome Wagon from 7-9pm Tuesday, October 7. The WWW volunteer group helps asylum seekers in the western suburbs, assisting about 200 homes containing about 1000 people. Cost $30.

The bare truth

A group of high school seniors at a Catholic boarding school face issues of sexuality and personal identity in a Victoria University student production staged as part of Melbourne Fringe Festival. Directed by Dylan Styles, Bare: A Pop Opera is on at Kindred Studios, 212A Whitehall Street, Yarraville, from Thursday to Saturday. Tickets: $20.

Women in the west

Four women will talk about living in the western suburbs and the power of community this Thursday night. Climate for Change founder Katerina Gaita, artist and craft organiser Gemma Jones, and writer and foster parent Ashley Carr will join Greens MP Colleen Hartland to discuss issues affecting women in the west. The Busy, Practical and Outrageous women’s forum is at The Greenhouse, 83B Gamon Street, Yarraville, from 7-10pm. Tickets cost $25.
